Spice Fusion, Dunhampton

When your chef pal invites you for a menu preview at a lovely Indian restaurant, Spice Fusion, you don’t say no. You get everyone in the car, and you make a night of it.

That’s exactly what we did over Easter weekend, heading out to Spice Fusion on the A449 near Stourport-on-Severn for an exclusive taste of the menu. It was one of those evenings that reminds you why you love dining out with family. Amazing food, a nice atmosphere, and a table full of happy faces, including the little ones who happily scoffed their homemade nuggets. Also a good crisp pint of Cobra – bliss!

About Spice Fusion and Chef Sudha

Spice Fusion is headed up by Sudha Saha, Chef Patron and a long-time pal of mine. He’s the kind of person whose talent just speaks for itself. He’s been featured on BBC, ITV and lots more – but what makes him special isn’t just the accolades he has. It’s the care and thought that goes into every single dish and menu I’ve seen him work on. I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside him at other restaurants over the years (mainly on social media) and this felt like everything he’s been working towards. Every plate was thoughtful, rich, and absolutely packed with flavour. He also serves up the best lamb chops, fact.

The menu at Spice Fusion is all about refined Indian cooking. It’s a place where traditional cooking thrives in the most stunning of ways. All dishes have proper quality ingredients and actually make you stop mid-conversation just to appreciate what you’re eating. Our table went quiet when food arrived, which is always a good sign. We were guided through a selection of the classics and here’s what landed on our table:

Achari Paneer Tikka – smoky, tangy, and fresh from the tandoor. A brilliant start.

Lamb Cutlets – my personal favourite, anywhere, ever. French-trimmed and charcoal grilled, these were genuinely the best I’ve ever had. No debate.

Seared Highland Venison – beautifully plated, rich, and full of depth.

Railway Lamb Curry – slow-cooked, deeply spiced, and the standout dish of the evening for me.

Pan Fried Spiced Sea Bass – fresh and vibrant, packed with flavour.

Salmon Tikka – perfectly cooked with the most gorgeous crispy skin.

Butter Chicken – silky, rich, and done properly.

And of course, the naans, rice, and poppadoms with dips, which were very much child-approved.

Speaking of the kids, they were absolutely in their element here once food arrived. Minus a hangry moment by one of my kids, the homemade chicken nuggets were a most welcome plate. These alongside a Punky Penguin ice cream, it was safe to say, they were full and sleepy by 8PM on the ride home.

For dessert, we rounded off with a Mango Crème Brûlée and a Matka Kulfi (saffron and pistachio), both at just £5.95. The perfect sweet ending to a really lovely family evening. Spice Fusion has been serving standout Indian cuisine since 2007, and this menu might just be their best yet. The restaurant was nearly full by 7pm on this preview, which tells you everything you need to know.

Note that there’s plenty of free parking, a full bar, and outdoor and private dining available on request.
