The Montcalm Royal London House – Hotel Review

Emma Victoria Stokes The Montcalm Royal London Junior SuiteI wasn’t going to blog about this hotel at first. The main reason being I wanted to keep it personal as it was for my ten year anniversary getaway. But after spending a night at Montcalm Royal London House on Finsbury Square, we were completely blown away by the service, the room, and the general handling of our booking. I can genuinely say that our experience with the hotel was borderline faultless which I find is a very rare occurrence. The Montcalm is actually a chain of hotels and I’ve stayed in one before when I visited London a few years back. This specific hotel has only been open for a few months, so I was interested in seeing how our sleepover would hold up.

I couldn’t actually believe it, but when we arrived at the check-in desk on a Saturday afternoon (and being handed a glass of champagne whilst checking in!) we were told that our room had been upgraded from a double to a junior suite. The day before arrival, I received an email from the hotel guest experience team, asking me to provide details on why we were visiting the hotel. Considering it hasn’t been open that long, I figured they were just trying to find out more on improving customer experience. I noted that it was my ‘ten years’ and we were having a long weekend in London. The fantastic Guest Experience Executive, Juliana, helped organise our upgrade so huge thanks to her for doing this for us, it’s very much appreciated.

The junior suites exude contemporary comfort with luxury technology and bedside gadgets. The beds are dressed in crisp white linens sheets, with sleek plush pillows and romantic bedside mood lighting. The minimalist bathrooms also have underfloor heating controlled by a wall tablet. We wowed and ahh’d our way around our room for the best part of the afternoon and we really appreciated the complimentary fruit, wine and water. All hotel guests are provided with free WiFi, a mini bar and Nespresso machine, as well as a handy smartphone which you can take around with you for directions. Of course, Josh’s first task was to see how quickly he could find Sky Sports on the 55″ smart TV as the Villa were playing later that day…

I’d highly recommend visiting there if you love burgers, chips, chilli fries and everything meaty you could think of – your face will be blown right off! We were also told on arrival at the hotel that we could use the wellness & fitness centre with pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. Unfortunately we didn’t really have time to explore the pool during our stay, but hopefully next time!

I really loved their white, minimal counter tops with lighting around the mirror. It made doing my night makeup easier than normal. We’ve definitely stolen this idea for our bathroom home improvements. After heading out into the night, we returned at around 11pm and fell into bed. They were so comfy, I had an amazing night’s sleep. I think the blackout curtains had something to do with it, thanks guys!

Emma Victoria Stokes The Montcalm Royal London Junior Suite Bedroom TeaWe didn’t have breakfast included in our price, but I’m sure it would been a great one – especially if you ordered it to the room! Thank you to the Montcalm Royal London House for hosting our stay. I would encourage anyone looking for that luxury London break away to check into here, the experience is exceptional. The Junior Suite would have cost £250 but I originally bought my room on Booking.com. I would encourage anyone to check out their prices first! What do you think of this hotel, would you ever stay here?

The hotel can be found at 22-25 Finsbury Square, London EC2A 1DX
