If you’re looking for a special Christmas experience that is suitable for both children and adults in Birmingham – the Breakfast with Santa experience at The White Swan, Edgbaston is one for your list.
Across several weekends during December, families have the opportunity to enjoy a lovely breakfast with The Man in Red for just £14.95 per person. Little ones can indulge in a hearty children’s breakfast dish, enjoy a soft drink, and will receive an activity pack with a book. Most importantly, they will meet Santa Claus in person.

Dining out at Premium Country Pubs, Birmingham
Premium Country Pubs have a large selection of restaurants that are nicely situated in the heart of the Midlands, alongside various others scattered across the UK. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of dining at Saxon Mill in Warwickshire, The Boot Inn Studley, and more recently the Cock Inn, Wishaw. The brand has a relaxed, family feel and I’ve always had a decent time when visiting each of them. What’s more, Premium Country Pubs cater to everyone, regardless if you’re dining out with other families, friends, as a couple – or even those who want to go out for a drink on their own. Everyone is welcome.

On Saturday 14 December, a group of us rocked up to The White Swan in Edgbaston for the Santa breakfast at 9AM. Truth be told, I’ve never experienced one before, but always hear nice things about them. Our group (combining 3 adults and 4 kids) arrived shortly before opening, and once inside, were seated all together at the far end of the room. A big table was nicely set up for us, and our server took our drink orders. For this type of occasion, there is a small breakfast menu that you can choose from, consisting of both kid’s and adult options. Like we did on our table, you can remove certain elements from the breakfasts if you think your kid won’t enjoy them. For example – I minimised my kid’s breakfasts down to just sausage, beans and toast but you still pay a set fee. There are alternatives if you don’t fancy a Full English too, and you can easily add on Champagne if you’re feeling extra sassy. If you are dining with little ones, expect full-blown table carnage of crackers, colouring pencils, christmas jokes, drinks and party hats.

Not long after our order was taken, we were told that Santa was ready to greet the children. Walking around to the back of the building, we spotted a makeshift ‘Grotto’ where Santa was sitting in his chair next to the window. When we arrived at the restaurant, the adults were given a clipboard to fill in some details about the kids (what presents they received last year, what their names, etc…) but bizzarely none of this information was used during the actual greeting. It was a swift hello, a couple of photos and a few laughs before waving goodbye and heading back to our table for food.

The food is always great and arrives hot to the table. One thing that I would change, however, is serving on smaller plates for the kids! In all, we had a lovely time all together and the young ones thoroughly enjoyed it too. We’re hoping to do another one next year at a different location. Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to start the holiday season with your family – there are still places available at various Premium Pub locations, so be quick and book your spot for Breakfast with Santa.
