#AD – Ahoy, Brummies! Experience the sights of Birmingham City Centre in a brand new and environmentally-friendly way as newcomers GoBoat – Birmingham launches a new site in Brindleyplace.
I was gifted a GoBoat Birmingham experience before opening to the public.
GoBoat is already a thing in London and is now a most welcome treat right here in the West Midlands. Located at The Water’s Edge, alongside Brindleyplace, this eco-friendly, self-drive electric boating experience is set to make a splash as it welcomes people to cruise down the Birmingham canals from a brand new perspective. Groups of up to eight people can now charter the eco electric boats, further encouraging exploration of various parts of Birmingham’s waterways network. Jump on board and find out more.
What are GoBoats?
Such a cool fact – all Goboats are made using recycled plastic bottles. Guests are welcome to bring picnic onboard and use the provided tables that are made from sustainable Kebony wood. What’s more, all vessels are powered by rechargeable electric motors which means no noisy engines, zero petrol and removed water pollution. The friendly crews are ready and waiting underneath the bridge opposite ICC to welcome you at their kiosk. Staff are there to give boating instructions and provide life jackets and buoyancy aids for babies and children. Guests will also receive a route map to help navigate the way along the canal loops.
What to expect from GoBoat – Birmingham
Users can choose between 1, 2 or 3-hour trips, while traveling at a safe speed of 4mph. One person needs to be designated driver and not under the influence of alcohol. But this doesn’t mean other people onboard can’t enjoy a tipple or two. Be sure to book your slot online ahead of time as I expect they’ll be incredibly busy on the build up to summer. The price for a boat hire begins at £95 for for the first 60 minutes. It then jumps to £135 or £175 for several precious hours to enjoy some quality time with your mates or family. You can also moor at several points like we did and get off for a walk. It might appear a little on the pricy side, but let’s not forget you can have up to 8 people at any given time – so it works out less than £12 per person.
GoBoat has been named as “the perfect activity for friends and families alike” – especially for those looking for something unique, eco-friendly and something out of the ordinary to further explore the city. Whilst traveling, keep an eye out for historic landmarks like the ‘roundabout’ at the Old Turn Junction. You’ll also pass by the the Cube and Mailbox, waving to people from the bridge like royalty. Travelling west, riders will discover Port Loop and Soho Loop. It’s such an enjoyable experience, especially if the weather is good.
