The Wheel Inn Pub & Thornside Holiday Cottage: Welton Le Marsh

I am so incredibly lucky to be able to say that my family has run several pubs in the past. The latest addition being The Wheel at Welton in Welton Le Marsh, Skegness. In 2015, my parents moved away to start their new life in the countryside and I couldn’t be happier for them. Their little pub The Wheel Inn and Thornside Holiday Cottage resides in a quiet little village with accepting locals and beautiful country walks. Come and take some time to explore the sights and to admire their new house which is a 5 second walk away from the pub.

The inside of the pub has mismatched chairs, a roaring log fire and a bar filled with spirits, beer and traditional ales – perfect cosy for a cold Winter night. I’ve spent many nights propped up the bar drinking Guinness and Baileys with the locals, and everyone said how lovely my mother is. Since reopening in 2015, people have said the takeover has brought ‘new life’ to the pub, and that’s such a lovely thing to hear. The chef works hard in the kitchen and cooks some incredibly delicious homemade meals. The back of the pub opens out into a beer garden, and is dog friendly (just like the church next door).

Just a stone throw away from the pub is Thornside Cottage, perfect for guests. It has a fully-fitted kitchen with appliances and a spacious lounge, perfect for a family stay. The TV station is loaded with DVD’s to cuddle up on the sofa to, and there’s even a leather chair to recline on. The cottage has free WIFI incase you wish to Instagram the place like I do. The cottage is a perfect holiday retreat and you won’t be disturbed by anyone. What’s better is that the cottage is just across from the pub, so you can fill yourself up with delicious pub grub if you decide not to cook. How amazing is this space? What’s more, the cottage can now be rented out for long and short stays all year round… you’d be silly not to!

The bedroom has a double bed, covered in crisp white sheets. The decor is airy and modern, and the bedroom opens up to an ensuite bathroom. The whole place is so incredibly warm and inviting and perfect for a getaway. It’s an ideal place to visit with friends or family, just to get away, relax and unwind.

The Orchard across from the cottage is filled with apple and pear trees. I tend to take a stroll in there after breakfast some mornings. In the warmer months, I steal some apples and take them home with me to bake an apple crumble, what a treat! What do you think of our new family pub?
