There’s no denying that Birmingham, West Midlands is a fantastic city to live in. As new restaurants and shops continue to pop up each month, there’s so much to see, explore and do. But every now and again, I like to escape from the city; from my normal routine and head out on a country drive somewhere in the UK.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve made it my mission to visit at least two new places every 12 months. My most recent trip was a surprise weekend trip to Salisbury where we saw Stonehenge, the cathedral and stayed in a gorgeous shepherd’s hut. A group of us also took a hike up Mount Snowdon recently and the drive along the rolling hills is one to be remembered. Last summer, my boyfriend and I even drove to Cheddar Gorge on a day out and it was the most memorable trip. Other times has seen us driving to the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds (where my parent’s run their pub: The Wheel Inn. As you can probably tell, I’m quite the travel lover when time allows. A few years back, a group of us even dared to conquer a road trip to Norway that was utter madness – and definitely a holiday I’ll always remember. Below are just a few pics from recent trips. See if you can guess where.
Most of the time, I like to visit places that I can easily reach from Birmingham within a few short hours, but don’t mind the extended trip either. When Lease Car UK got in touch recently to ask me to talk about some of the places I’ve visited, they also linked me to some ideas for some of the UK’s best drives as promoted by other travel lovers and bloggers. From beautiful drives to the Cotswolds, to the Brecon Beacons, the Lake District (be sure to check out my hotel review at Beech Hill Hotel & Spa also!) to Newquay, sometimes I feel as though I take for granted all of the wonderful places in the UK that are practically on our doorstep. Over the coming months, I’m going to be taking some more road trips that are yet to be confirmed. I’m hoping that Wales and possibly somewhere near the South coast that does excellent fish and chips will be two of them. Something tells me this Summer is going to be a great one and I guarantee some brand new places will be explored.
